It's worth noting that 'cult' is probably a more coherent cluster in feature space than 'disease', so asking 'is this a cult' dissolves to something like 'what features are empirically correlated and which ones should I be worried about and watch out for?'.
If you're worried about seeming crazy, maybe your last couple sentences should be your 'standard disclaimer'. "You should not interpret a New Crazy Idea on my blog as evidence that I have Converted to it or that I will go around evangelizing it. Instead, you should interpret a New Crazy Idea as evidence that I have learned something interesting and wish to share it with you. If you are worried that I actually believe something weird, contact me and I will give you a more nuanced expression of my beliefs."
Someone add me as a contributor please. I want to post shit.
